Best of Welly Launch 2024

One thing about the events scene in St Andrews is that a launch party is almost always guaranteed. Welly Ball held its annual launch on Sunday at the Vic, and the atmosphere was nothing short of electric. Silver streamers and balloons adorned the entrance, welcoming a vibrant crowd eager to kick off the season in style. As I stood at the entrance, capturing the best-dressed attendees, I navigated the bustling line, dodging bouncers who were keen to keep the flow moving.

By 11:30 PM, the Welly Launch was in full swing, with a dazzling array of fashion on display. Pops of red, cheetah prints, and classic little black dresses mingled with the iconic black top and jeans ensemble. The night was a fashionista's dream, with Concrete Catwalk’s very own Ilaria Freccia and Paulina Kachalova making a statement as they strutted up the Vic staircase.

Paulina and Ilaria both sport metallics that perfectly embody the chic aesthetic of St Andrews: pink sparkly Golden Goose sneakers and shimmering gold jeans. Ilaria‘s outfit is complemented by her friends trendy pop of red, a color that has become a staple in 2024 fashion. This vibrant hue has been embraced widely, thanks in part to influencers who have taken social media by storm, showcasing everything from bold red nails to eye-catching bags and shoes.

The rise of the ‘Red Nail Theory’ has particularly fueled this trend, suggesting that red nails evoke a sense of nostalgia and attraction. This theory has gained traction on platforms like TikTok, where people share their experiences of enhanced attention when sporting red nails. As a result, crimson accents have become synonymous with confidence and allure, making them a must-have for any outfit.

Pictured here beside those pops of red is a cheetah print mini skirt, a staple that has become ever-present across St Andrews. From jeans to skirts and tops, cheetah print has cemented its status as a neutral, effortlessly blending with a myriad of textures and styles. This versatility makes it a perfect canvas for fashion experimentation, allowing wearers to mix and match with ease.

This wouldn’t be an article about St Andrews nightlife if I didn’t feature the uniform of many. The going out top is a sacred college girl tradition that transcends nations, time, and space, and at Welly Launch, it was on full display. The event also featured a tapestry of denim variations, with styles ranging from high-rise dark wash flares to low-rise light wash baggy jeans, each pairing perfectly with the iconic going out top.

The black top, a staple in any night-out wardrobe, was seen in an array of textures and necklines, showing its versatility and timeless appeal. However, the fashionistas of St Andrews didn't stop there; they also embraced the increasingly popular white tank, adding a fresh twist to the classic ensemble.

And lastly, how could we forget about the boys? Their fashion choices at the Welly Launch were as noteworthy as the girls', with white sneakers remaining a constant staple in their wardrobes. These were often paired with light sweaters, striking the perfect balance between comfort and style. The sweaters provided just enough warmth for the brisk walk to the Vic, yet were breathable enough to dance all night.

As the night unfolded, it became clear that Welly Launch served as a vibrant tapestry of fashion, music, and camaraderie, setting the tone for the exciting social calendar ahead. With everyone from seasoned fashion veterans to those embracing classic staples, Welly Launch was a testament to the diverse and dynamic style landscape of St Andrews, leaving us eagerly anticipating the next style showcase.
