Best of Down the Rabbit Hole…
Tick, tick, tick… teacups and playing cards embellished the tables of the Adamson cocktail bar last Thursday as only the most fashionable guests of Concrete Catwalk were invited to join us in the pursuit of style down the rabbit hole and into wonderland. Going through the looking glass, in the form of a free entry drink, guests were met with the sweet, tea time treats scattered on tables. Our transformed drink menu renamed some of the Adamson favorites; cherry margaritas and pornstar martinis were turned into the Queen of Hearts and the Cheshire Cat.
Committee and guests brought eccentric, eclectic, maximalist, and carefully curated outfits well beyond what we expected while we waited for the main show to begin. Shannon sported many thrifted finds in her Alice inspired look. Pale and bright pink plaid tights peeked out from a light blue and pink floral dress secured with a lace trimmed denim waistcoat. Pearls and dainty gold adorned the look which was completed with a simple black headband, high white socks and a black loafer. Delicate, quirky, and splendid, Shannon embodied an individualistically eccentric Alice and earned many gasps of approval throughout the night.
Other guests celebrated the theme by joining airy slips and lace with the playful structure of corsets or the clean lines of pressed shirts. Patterns and accessories were the name of the night and we were delighted by the haphazard necklace stacks, clashing motifs, and floral neckties.
The bar was cleared and wiped as an announcement marked five minutes to walking. As the crowd inched towards the bar, Kate Bush filled the space and the first look dazzled to say the least. Illuminated by the backdrop of the glowing bar, Storie climbed the stepladder and walked with an aura of power dressed in all red as the Queen of Hearts. Dress pants, a red bra, and an open, mohair cardigan were completed with a slick back bun, gold and pearl jewelry, and a red lip. Sammie walked in a pink patterned baby doll dress with puff sleeves. Her blushed cheeks and pearl and pink beaded jewelry lended her towards more whimsical energy.
Kyle walked in a hard cut black suit, the star of the outfit being the nearly open paisley patterned shirt. Sam’s simple, white linen button down and buff pants were accessorized by a colorful, vintage henri bendel scarf, a string of freshwater pearls beaded together with a leather strap, and a melange of beaded and jewel bracelets.
Last but not least, Zara emulated the hippie, hookah-smoking caterpillar with her bohemian semblance. Her white corset, which was adorned with eyelets and ribbing, tucked into a light pear colored, silk patterned maxi skirt. This base was adorned with two belts, one of bronze bearing a sunflower emblem and the other of varying silver rings which hung off her hips. A crystal heart pendant rested on her chest and a vivid hair scarf tied back her dark curls, resonating with the texture and color of her skirt.
The night left all inspired by the dizzying amount of magnificent outfits. Although some of the clothes may still be too unconventional for the streets of St Andrews, we hope that this year’s event has taken us a step closer. Until next year…
