Best of VS 2023
Just like you all, I came to the VS Fashion show for the runway “fits,” however I was once again taken aback by the style standing on the floor below. Not only was the audience dressed according to theme, but did so with impeccable taste. As we know, the show was a tribute to Virgil Abloh who passed late 2021. The attendees showed their love by dressing in ‘off-white’ outfits that clearly took inspiration from his famous words, “Dreams come true when you don’t sleep.”
Throughout the crowd, there was a mix of blue and white outfits, but the highlights were hard to miss. First, we saw a young man, Cris who rocked denim-on-denim, a controversial, but successful outfit. He added two silver chains which added the perfect subtle yet present bling. Next, we were able to photograph a man who was wearing a dazzling Vivienne Westwood chain in respect to her sudden death as well. He accompanied this bold jewelry by wearing a short sleeve, tan suit. He said it was the perfect combination of comfortable yet classy and said it was his go-to outfits for events. I agree, but would say it was more than a go-to for VS; it was the perfect choice.
Next there were two gorgeous women wearing ever-trending corset tops. The first was blue, worn with white pants. It was a floral crocheted top adorned with lace and ribbons. Classy, stylish, and trendy. Next, was a white corset paired with tan pants. A simple sounding combination, but the street wear style of both the corset and pants so perfectly captured the style surrounding Virgil’s Off-white brand. The black lettering on both pieces captured Abloh’s brand and made it clear his fashion lives on.
Next, we photographed two friends. Both dressed glamorously. The first was wearing trusty blue jeans with a white floral top which she decorated with a string of pearls. They went so perfectly together I had to ask if she really put them on herself. Her next accessory blew me away; an arm scarf that she knitted herself. It was meticulously crafted and the perfect addition to turn her pearls into streetwear. Her friend went with a different style but was equally as stunning. She wore a second-hand dress painted with blue and white clouds. She did look like someone from a dream. The dress was an amazing find and suitable for the theme. Paired with her acrylic cloud earrings, Hellen’s look was nothing less than perfect.
The last look that caught my eye was a woman wearing a two-piece set and statement makeup. Her diamond-studded eyes added to the glamor of her outfit. It was so stunning I had to ask where she got it. I was struck with “Oh, I made it!” I could not believe how much talent she had. Upon further conversation, she explained that it was a part of a collection she was in the process of designing. The collection is a series of white clothes with black writing. I hadn’t seen the writing until she turned around. The bow that tied her top together was designed with hand-painted black cursive which added a unique element.
As per usual, the concrete style of St. Andrews did not disappoint. During this week of celebrating fashion across the town we are expecting your best outfits. I was impressed by the turnout at VS and even more impressed by the striking style of our students.
