Best of MASQ 2024

Beneath the dim strobe-light glow and smoke machine haze, velvet blazers and sequin mini-skirts flashed on the Vic’s dancefloor. The masquerade was a glitzy, moody affair, with attendees putting bold twists on elevated, minimalist outfits. There were, however, no actual masks to be seen.

Solid hues of red, white and black were the colors of the evening—simple, yet eye-catching and daring. In-keeping with this theme, one attendee paired low, point-toe heels with a black mini dress, while her friend opted for long, structured pants and a silk red top. Both outfits were sophisticated, yet chic and danceable.

Various types of denim bottoms—from mid-rise to low-rise jeans, and jean skirts—also abounded. These were oftentimes paired with thin leather belts in shades of black, brown and burgundy, with small metallic buckles to accent the clean, minimalist look. At this event, the fading relevance of corset-style tops was apparent. Instead, intricately-patterned blouses, pictured above, abounded. Delicate, lacy tank tops and tight t-shirts were also commonly worn.

Meanwhile, sequins abounded, glittering on dresses, tops and makeup looks. This particular girl chose to don a sequinned mini skirt, and pair it with a silk halter top. Black stockings were also incorporated into the look—a great way to stay warm in the chilly November weather, especially while standing in line.

Speaking of the line, eager attendees-to-be donned tweed and corduroy to stay cozy as well as cute. The laid-back preppy style suited the November climate well, as did the preppy, muted earth-tones. A maxi skirt brought a pop of white to the monochromatic brown outfit of one attendee, who accessorized with a brown patterned skinny scarf.

Jeans seemed to be the pants of choice for male guests, paired with neutral tops and cozy sweaters.

The music’s rhythmic beats underscored the night, serving as an addictive soundtrack to the dreamy, hazy ambiance of the event. And that concludes the Vic’s glitzy masquerade—even if there weren’t actually any masks to be seen.
