Best of VS Launch

As I made my way to the Town Hall, I joined a crowd of glitz and glamour, the atmosphere buzzing in anticipation as we were handed glasses of Prosecco upon entry. VS25 Launch guaranteed a night of elegance, class and sophistication, underscored by its theme of Sprezzatura, signifying Italian effortless elegance as defined in the 16th century by Baldassare Castiglione.

The dress code called for cocktail attire, and the guests exceeded expectations, arriving impeccably dressed in a dazzling array of silky dresses, long skirts and draped fabrics. Perfectly complementing the event's sophisticated atmosphere, the guys were sporting sharp suits and tuxedos, more of which was to come in the show.

The staple of the night was definitely the little black dress, also known as LBD, a timeless versatile essential which can be worn day to night, cocktail to club, dressed up or down. And it doesn’t get boring: the night showcased an infinite array of variations, with LBD’s exhibiting asymmetrical necklines, sheer draped fabrics, bow accessorised cut outs or decomposed with matching top and skirt. Many girls paired the dresses with kitten heeled knee high boots for ultimate style and comfort.

Whilst black pervaded, pops of colour didn’t lack, with many opting for blue, pink, red and floral dresses. A girl styled her bright red tweed dress with black tights and gold jewellery, showcasing a sophisticated winter ensemble that offers inspiration for holiday party season coming up. The black and white combo was also very popular (guilty!), whether it wasin the white top and tailored trouser pairing or through suits, sported by guys and girls (as pictured above).

In terms of fabrics and styles, ruffles, silk and lace were big. Honourable mention goes to sheer fabrics which made several appearances, perhaps in an ode to a more provocative elegance, which was also exhibited by the models. All was paired with dainty jewellery: a guest complemented her deep halter neckline with a long threadlike necklace, adding a touch of subtle elegance to the look.

In my chat with Ines Tramarin, VS25 Creative Director, she promised the show would take me on a journey and it didn’t disappoint. From androgynous suits to provocative lingerie to flowy maxi dresses to all white looks, Italian elegance was at the centre of every outfit. Ines Tramarin explained how VS25 wants to move away from abstract complex themes towards the simplicity of good tailoring and classic designs epitomised in the idea of Sprezzatura.

As the models strutted down the runway, descending steep steps in vertiginously high heels, the energy proved to be contagious and the clothes glamourous. The show concluded with all-white looks reminiscent of the iconic Gossip Girl white party, underlined by dynamic choreography designed by Ines Tramarin in collaboration with India Kolb, VS25 Head of Choreography.

Despite some technical difficulties, the night was a success and the fashion game definitely on point.
