What We Wore Over Break
Going home for break from uni is always the perfect opportunity to switch up your wardrobe and embrace different styles that fit every occasion. After months of campus fashion - whether that’s putting on your trench coat and ballet flats or your best clubbing outfits - heading home means dressing for cozy family gatherings, catching up with your high school best friends, or even a festive night out. It’s a chance to showcase a mix of comfortable yet stylish looks, from effortless chic loungewear to polished outfits that remind everyone how you’ve changed since high school.
After months of dressing to impress—whether it’s for class, work, or social gatherings—nothing quite compares to the feeling of stepping into the sanctuary of your own home and finally getting to wear sweats again. It’s a moment we all look forward to during long stretches of deadlines, meetings, and events. The reality of being able to throw on your favorite pair of sweatpants or that oversized hoodie is nothing short of liberating. Over the cold winter break it was time to embrace that cozy, laid-back vibe.
Pictured here is Genevieve Rich ‘28 showcasing her “groutfit” with a little flair. Wearing all sweats doesn’t always have to make you feel lazy or feel like people can’t see you. Here Genevieve has showcased how you can dress up a sweatshirt with a pair of relaxed jeans and cute boots. You could also go for a more classic low-key vibe with the famous aritzia “Cozy Sweat Fleece Perfect Hoodie”, and pair it with their matching sweatpants, where you get maximum comfort along with fabric that doesn’t engulf you, and still allows for a flattering fit.
As the countdown to midnight approached, and we all got ready to ring in the new year, we saw some phenomenal new years eve outfits. Whether you’re hitting a glamorous rooftop party, an intimate dinner with friends, or a chic club, the right outfit will set the tone for the year ahead. This year’s trends are all about bold statement pieces, luxe fabrics, and timeless classics that will never go out of style.
Pictured here is Anne Nodelman ‘28 in a glitter and glam outfit. New year’s Eve is the one night of the year when you can never have too much sparkle. Sequins, metallics, and rhinestones reign supreme, making you the human embodiment of the fireworks lighting up the sky. Showcasing an all-black outfit with leather pants and a mesh black long sleeve and a black bra, Anne shows an effortlessly cool look for NYE. Opt for a sequin dress in silver, gold, or jewel tones to make a bold statement. If full sequins feel too extra for you, consider a shimmering top paired with sleek trousers or a black mini skirt for a refined yet radiant look!
And if there’s one piece that will never let you down on New Year’s Eve, it’s the black mini dress. The LBD (little black dress) is synonymous with effortless sophistication and versatility. Whether it’s form-fitting, adorned with subtle embellishments, or features sheer or lace details, the black mini dress is an instant showstopper and great go-to. The beauty of this staple lies in its adaptability—dress it up with chunky accessories, or keep it sleek with minimalist elegance. It’s the one outfit that works whether you’re sipping champagne at a high-end venue or dancing the night away at a club.
One of the best parts of break is meeting up with your college friends for a coffee and catch up session. Coffee shop fashion is all about effortless chic - pieces that make you look put together without trying too hard. From cozy knits to trendy yet relaxed essentials, here are two of our St Andrews students demonstrating the perfect coffee date outfits.
On the right is Genevieve Rich ‘28 wearing a —. There’s something undeniably comfortable about sipping a latte while wrapped in a soft knit and some relaxed jeans. Sweaters and cardigans in neutral tones like beige, gray, and cream are a staple for a cozy yet stylish look. Pair a chunky knit sweater with straight leg jeans and ankle boots for a laid-back yet polished vibe, or pair it with a mini skirt, some fun tights and boots for a more fashion forward look; ensuring that you can be comfy and cute at the same time.
On the left is Bea Shiever ‘28 wearing a pair of fitted flared jeans, a white crochet long sleeve, and a grey trench coat for a sophisticated “it-girl” look. This outfit appreciates understated elegance, elevated basics are the way to go. This outfit can be modified in so many ways to fit anyone’s closet. A crisp white button-up shirt tucked into relaxed trousers or high-waisted jeans exudes effortless sophistication. A lightweight knit top or a sleep bodysuit can also work wonders under a trench coat or well fitted cardigan. Footwear can also play a key role in refining this look: sleek loafers, classic white sneaks, ballet flats, or ankle boots can instantly dress up or down this look.
Over winter break, St Andrews students showcased a perfect blend of comfort, nostalgia, and seasonal style, proving that fashion is just as much about self-expression as it is about practicality. From the beloved groutfit, symbolizing ultimate relaxation at home, to dazzling New Year’s Eve ensembles that welcomed 2025 in style, and coffee shop catch-ups provided the perfect excuse to embrace effortlessly chic ensembles. Whether dressing for cozy moments, glamorous celebrations, or casual reunions, students embraced their personal style with confidence—reminding us that fashion is not just about trends but about feeling at home in what you wear.
