We share the stories of the truly unique and international style of the streets of St Andrews.

In the Bag with CC
We as a culture (St Andreans) are so preoccupied with what kind of bag someone is carrying – but do we ever stop to wonder what’s inside?
Fashionably Aware: The Misogyny We Pretend Not To See
Calling fashion frivolous has never been just an intellectual opinion, it has always been a stereotype rooted in misogyny. It comes from the same embedded belief system that makes young girls second-guess their favourite colour because they feel ashamed of liking pink. Fashion is not frivolous, it is a language you are refusing to learn.
Art in The Flesh: VS meets VS
This year marked the 25th season of the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show – a milestone that invited both nostalgia and scrutiny for one of fashion’s most polarising spectacles. Unsurprisingly, the dazzling evening offered more than goddesses in stilettos: amid the swell of critical attention, it reignited debate over how women’s bodies are presented within the broader sartorial landscape. In today’s lingerie industry, to what extent have we truly reconciled the tension between body positivity, modern feminism, and the lingering traces of the male gaze? Naturally, the search for an answer starts here, on the east coast of Fife.
We Love Boots!
When autumn sweeps across St Andrews, bringing sea breezes and cobbled-street puddles, students turn to their most trusted fashion staple: boots. From classes to 601, these five distinct styles are defining campus style this season. Practical, stylish, and a little rebellious, they capture the essence of St Andrews life: academic tradition meets effortless cool.
What your subject says about your style
Are there specific styles, certain trends and ‘uniforms’ within different courses? Does your course subject determine or, at the very least, influence your style?Stationed right outside the entrance to the main library, I encountered english, chemistry, economics, international relations, biology, philosophy students and more sporting their distinctly St Andrean style.
Perfectly Petrifying: Last Minute Halloween Costumes
With the buzz of Raisin, Reading Week, and a frightening amount of deadlines, Halloween has a way of sneaking up on St Andrews unexpectedly. In a town where the streets come alive at night with both haute and haunted costumes, sometimes the biggest fright can be trying to pull together an outfit that makes you feel fashionably frightful. If you find yourself on the evening of October 31st staring at your wardrobe in despair, you’re not alone.
A Ribbon Away: The Charm of the Silk Twilly
There’s a certain kind of beauty that lives in the smallest details, a layer of elevation to any outfit that makes you feel put together. A personal favourite of mine is the silk twilly. A smaller form of the silk scarf, the twilly has been my obsession for years and I want to talk about how they are not only fabulous but also incredibly versatile.
St Andrews Night Wear
St Andrews may be a small coastal town, but everyday is a fashion show, and our students’ night out fashion proves that style thrives even in the brisk North Sea air. Between cozy pubs, lively flat parties, the occasional black-tie ball, and 601 nights, the University's social calendar demands versatility — and the outfits reflect it. Here, effortless elegance meets a touch of vintage and individuality, with looks that balance sophistication and laid-back comfort.
More Than a Table for Coffee
If there’s only one thing you take away from this article, let it be this: treat your coffee table like it’s a blank canvas. It doesn’t have to be a designated throne for empty teacups and stained coasters. When thoughtfully styled and adorned, it becomes a slice of personality – a three-dimensional microcosm of your favourite Pinterest board.
The Autumn trends edit
In the bubble, September marks the start of the term, with new wardrobes, fresh beginnings, and a new wave of trends. There is something about the start of autumn in St Andrews that feels quietly cinematic. Whether you’re heading to a tutorial, dinner with friends, or just walking down to grab coffee, this is your wardrobe edit.
Isabel Marant’s Revival: How to Capture Parisian Chic Without the Designer Price Tag
In fashion, nostalgia always finds its way back into our closets, and right now, Isabel Marant is leading the charge. Once the ultimate cool-girl designer of the 1990s and early 2000s, Marant’s signature style has reemerged in full force, proving that the Parisian sense of casual glamour never truly goes out of style.
Letter from the Editor
I am excited to document just this: change and evolution. Especially in fashion, looking back at the past is the best way to move forward, so for this year’s theme we’ve decided to go back to roots of Concrete Catwalk, evolving its foundational concept further.
Study Style in St A
As exams loom, eyes droop, and caffeine courses, fashion seems like it would be the last thing on anyone’s mind. Do you really need to dress cute just to spend all day hunched over your computer in the library? Elsewhere, this question may be answered with an eye roll and an “of course not” but this is St Andrews, where every opportunity to leave the house is an opportunity to dress, and dress well. Fashion is inarguably ingrained in St Andrews student culture, even during exam season, so how do St Andrews students adapt their usual outfits for these monotonous weeks of revision?
The St Andrews Style
Nestled on Scotland’s east coast, our historic town of St Andrews is well known for its world-famous golf course and prestigious university. But beyond the ivy-covered walls and windswept fairways, a quiet sartorial movement is taking shape. One rooted in tradition, subtly polished with modern flair. The St Andrews style is a masterclass in refined, effortless dressing, capturing a unique fusion of academia, countryside charm, and understated luxury.
Styling St Andrews Charity Shop Finds
For the past two years I’ve lived in St Andrews, I never thought much about the charity shops dotting every street and corner. I’d go in one occasionally, harboring the faint hope I might find a formal dress to wear to one event or another, but when nothing satisfied I’d quickly surrender my search and borrow something from a friend instead. In a town as fashion-oriented as St Andrews, though, surely the charity shops must have something good? What am I missing? I’d wonder to myself everytime I walked past the Bell St stretch of second-hand stores. So, finally, I decided to go into these local thrifts with no limitations or expectations. Instead, I only had a vague goal of finding something to buy and subsequently style. In forcing myself to have an open mind, the charity shops were suddenly teeming with inspiration. Basic button-downs, blouses, and baby-tees were bountiful. Some were flashy and others were so simple they could have fallen out of a Brandy Melville. Printed midi and maxi skirts crowded the racks and colorful sweaters were displayed in droves. The 100% wool sweaters were especially exciting finds because most sweaters made today are some sort of polyester blend, or else upwards of a hundred pounds. Finding an affordable, quality wool or cashmere sweater is a treat (holes can always be mended!).
By the end of my search, I had three main pieces to style: one I transformed, one I altered, and one I left as is.
Prost! Biergartenzeit in St Andrews
As I have come to learn in my first year living in the UK, there is nothing quite like a sunny spring day in Britain. After months of cold, darkness, clouds, rain, and – for us in Scotland, especially – ridiculously short days with early afternoon sunsets, the vastness of a blue sky and warm embrace of the sun is an almost alien sensation.
Deck Yourself Out
How might St Andrews students (and fashion connoisseurs alike) maximise self-expression in their outfits? The small aspect of the more overlooked and/or less conventional accessories – more than just a simple necklace or the expected jewelry – can actually end up doing the most for an outfit & its wearer.
Spring’s Must-Have Shoes Taking Over St Andrews
St Andrews always has a solid shoe game, but come spring, it reaches a whole new level. As the sweaters and jackets come off, layering takes a backseat and it becomes the turn of styling through colour, accessories and, most importantly, cool shoes. And so, peeking out of breezy linen skirts and flowy floral trousers is a wide array of footwear that ranges from the ballet flat to colourful sneakers and camel toned clogs. Here are some of the most popular shoes we have spotted around St Andrews:
Bag Charms: The Art of Personalisation
Fashion is a versatile form of art, and whilst some fashion trends whisper; others jingle as you walk.
The Art of Combining Colour
As we bid farewell to the dreary days of winter, colour slowly finds its way back into our wardrobes. With warmer weather comes the perfect excuse to embrace vibrant hues, whether through bold brights or soft, understated tones as florals and pastels take over from the muted greys, browns, and blacks of heavy coats and knitwear. Spring is the season of playful pairings, eclectic combinations, and daring fashion statements. Picture Sex and the City’s Carrie Bradshaw striding through the breezy streets of New York, effortlessly mixing green, blue, and her signature hot pink, completing her outfits with a pair of iconic Manolo Blahniks. This season is all about creativity and experimentation, and what better way to embrace it than through colour?
